The Possum Den

I’m back!

Well, my blog and my site are how I want em (for now), and I can make these blog posts from my phone! I dont mind digging into html/css/js, i quite love it honestly, but when it comes to updating stuff CONSISTENTLY, I needed some sort of static site generator or something. It’s all sorted so now I can just write!!

Where’s KP been?

I was in a depressive slump for several months, constantly bouncing between sad, frustrated, and anxious. Well, I went through the whole diagnosis spiel, and now I’m feeling better than ever! They diagnosed me with Bipolar type 2, which has honestly explained so much.

Now that I’m medicated, my mood has been stable, and I’ve been able to get good, solid work done on my site and other projects! Looking back, I realized all my projects were done in hyper-productive hypomanic episodes, where I’d stay up working till 5, 6 AM, wake up at 8 or 9, and feel totally fine. Thing about all that work I was getting done? not thought-out or planned in any way. I’ve impulsively picked up so many hobbies and purchased so many things I really don’t need. It’s been maybe a month and a half since I’ve been at an effective dose, and I’m still in awe that this is how most people work normally. Makes me feel a little bit more sympathetic to myself. I’ve been working with an incomplete set of tools my entire life, no wonder I haven’t been able to “get my shit together”.

Recent happenings

Wildfire Evac

We got evacuated by a wildfire! Super freaky, but luckily our neighborhood was safe. It came less than a mile from our house and scorched one side of the mountain, but no one was hurt. All in all, it was a great lesson in emergency preparedness. We’ve lived in the mountains for nearly a decade and we’ve known we needed go-bags in case of fire or earthquake this entire time, but we procrastinated all this time.

Camping about

Wifey and I went camping! The house has set up a little camping spot down a ways on our property from the house. we affectionately refer to it as camp mushroom. My wife and I spent 2 nights out there, and boy it was a nice reset, even if it was brief. We spent the night watching kitchen nightmares, smoking weed, and playing Soul Calibur VI.

Fun in Soul Calibur VI

My family has been playing the soul calibur games since before I was even born — My mom and dad would fight each other throughout the game series. Soul Calibur VI is when just about the whole family picked an interest. The custom character creator is limited, but boy can you make some insane characters in it. It almost makes it more satisfying because of the limited toolset you work with. We’ve filled out 93 out of the 100 slots on the family xbox, but recently my wife and I pirated the game in our room and we’ve been making our own monstrosities to fight with. Here’s a few:

Corkscrewer, the high potency love duck

Corporate Overlord BIG JACK

Red Herring, the Deadliest Catch

Chappy, the Cajun Slop Chef

The Seductress, TERMINATRIX

COCKMORPHIS: Connected to the Penis Mind

Power Grid Fascination

New hyperfixation: the electrical grid! As you can probably tell by the article on Indigo substation over on my knowledge base, I’m fascinated by the electrical grid. Did you know you can find .kml/.kmz files for all sorts of public infrastructure, and view it all through google earth? I just found that out, and overlayed a transmission line map, substation map, and power generation source map, and boy, I was able to get an overhead look at California’s grid with a surprising amount of detail! what I found most interesting, was how you could see the powerlines going into the substations/switchyards. Maybe it’s only pleasing to me, but here’s a view cool examples:

Devers substation

Valley Substation

Diablo Canyon Substation

What’s next?

  • More work on NeoGallery.
  • Some fishing trips w/ my wife.
  • Practicing guitar consistently.
  • Establish a daily/weekly/monthly schedule, my sis found an awesome one over amazon for only 6 bucks that looks like it’d work well with my brain

And that’s it. Thanks for reading my first journal entry! More to come!
