The Possum Den

A peaceful week

Hello again — It’s currently 11:00 PM, Saturday night. I’m listening to music, smoking some weed, and simply enjoying my time in my wife and I’s new space. Things are slowing down, it feels like I’m falling into a steady rhythm, and I’m sort of amazed by how good it feels. I love fixing our trailer up, maintaining it, adding new things to our space. Yesterday, we went down to home depot and picked up a nice diffused LED strip. It’s multi-addressable so it’s proper RGB. I put it over our slideout, and during the day, we’ve got a nice light on our ceiling. At night, it’s enough to light up the whole space with a nice soft glow. It’s a little addition, but it makes the space a whole lot cozier. I also worked a bit on the seals on the trailer. While inspecting the outside, I found some holes in the caulking from the factory. I finally got the right sealant, and was able to caulk up some of the holes around the windows and corners of the frame! There’s more to do — and the roofing needs work too, but I don’t mind it. Y’know what they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

My mother-in-law visited today — we went out, had a good meal, and did some shopping for the house. We needed some kitchenware and a nice blanket for our couch, and picked up a soda stream too! Lovely additions to our space. I also finally finished setting up everything on my desk. Put the rug back down, and brought my audio interface, microphone, and macropad in! In combination with my directional Wi-Fi antenna, I should have a good enough connection to do live broadcasts on KP Radio again. Now that I’m getting back into the flow of life and adapting, I’m really missing my weekly broadcasts. They’re fun as hell to do, and I love seeing people participate and enjoy. Gonna slowly get back into it here soon…

My grandpa visited from hospice on Halloween — and what a lovely visit it was. Good food, good company, good family. He was able to check out our new place too! It was great just being able to sit and smoke and joke with him. Him being able to see our home in person was a big moment. When he first got in hospice, he was bummed out (as was I) that he wasn’t gonna be able to see it, so getting a chance to do just that was absolutely heartwarming. He’ll be getting another pass from hospice this thanksgiving, we’re all looking forward to it! We bring him food and coffee and visit him multiple times a week, but him getting to leave and visit us is a whole other story! He’s an old stoner from the 60’s, so getting out means he gets to smoke a nice bowl and light up some ciggies lol. We all have our vices right?

My work week went pretty well too…Feel really good about the work I did, it wasn’t too busy, and my customers said some really kind words in their surveys of me! I’m trying to look at all the opportunities this job allows me, and learning to be truly grateful. While the rest of the economy is in shambles, due to the nature of my work, my job is pretty secure (knock on wood). I’ve got great benefits, I work remotely, I’ve got lots of free time at work, and what I’m doing helps and benefits people every single day, and they’re even thankful for it. I also have opportunity to move throughout the organization and take on bigger, more specialized roles. It’s a pretty sweet gig!

Life happens, life will continue to happen. We adapt, we adjust, and we make due. When I look at where I was, just months ago, and compare it to where I am now…the difference is night and day. My wife and I are learning how to live and love to the fullest. It’s crazy to think what it took to get here, emotionally and otherwise, but fuck, we’re here! There will be hard times, there will be rough times, but through all the turbulence of this last year I feel like we’ve learned how to roll with the punches. We’ll be alright!

What’s on the agenda?

  • Seal the roof and frame of our home, check for more holes in sealant.
  • Start prepping for a new live broadcast, and set up a new broadcast schedule.
  • Make some more bulletin ads for the front page
